It\u2019s a totally subjective rating and it\u2019s up to you to decide.<\/p>\n<p>There are two major benefits of using RPE:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; background-color: #ffffff;\">\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\"><strong>Relentless can measure your progress.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you did 5 sets of 5 squats two weeks ago at 100 kg and it felt really hard, you\u2019d probably rate it 8 or 9 out of 10. Today when you did the same set at the same weight, it felt really easy so you\u2019d give it an RPE of 7. That will tell the system that you\u2019re making progress and it\u2019s challenging you appropriately.<br><br><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\"><strong>The app can stop you from over-training.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you\u2019re in a period where sleep is bad, recovery is not sufficient, and your body is aching, you will probably rate a lot of sets at 8 or 9 every workout. The app will notice this,&nbsp;recalibrate,&nbsp;and ask you to ease off for a little while until you feel better.<\/li><\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"null\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 22px; line-height: 33px;\"><strong>The scale<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin: 10px 0px; padding: 0px; text-size-adjust: 100%; color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 27px;\">We\u2019re using the 1-10 scale to rate RPE, meaning:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; background-color: #ffffff;\">\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">1-4 doesn\u2019t really count as exercise so we\u2019re not even giving you the option<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">5 is a warm-up<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">6 is pretty easy, more like speed training than strength<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">7 is moderately heavy, you could probably do 3 more reps<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">8 is getting hard, you could\u2019ve only done 1 or 2 more reps<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">9 is really heavy, you might have been able to do one more rep<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-size-adjust: 100%;\">10 is your absolute max,&nbsp;or even a fail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\" style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 22px; line-height: 33px;\"><strong>Be true to yourself<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\">A key thing to remember is that RPE is only about you and&nbsp;<\/span><em style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\">how you feel right now<\/em><span style=\"color: #757575; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;\">. It\u2019s not about what your buddy would think or what you think you should have been feeling. It\u2019s about right here and right now.
